Following the September 2023 earthquake in Marrakech, MCI Maroc, Hewlett Packard Enterprise operated by Selectium, Southcomp Polaris and iSTYLE are pleased to announce their financial support to the Mayshad Foundation for development of a new Community Center Project in Tansghart, south of Marrakech in Morocco.

The project is responding to immediate needs after the earthquake and has commenced plans to promote long-term development for 187 families from the small town in the heart of the Atlas Mountains and 500 additional families from surrounding villages.

Nezha Alaoui, founder of the Mayshad Foundation, expressed her enthusiasm for the project alliance: “This partnership is a crucial step in achieving our mission. Together, we join forces to bring sustainable development to the lives of communities affected by the earthquake.”

Already welcoming local people, the Community Center has begun to provide a range of services such as:

  • Health Care: Providing access to basic medical care and mental health services for residents of Douar Tansrat and surrounding villages.
  • Education: Implementing educational programs for children and adults, aimed at strengthening skills and promoting autonomy.
  • Sustainability: Promoting sustainable practices in the environment, agriculture and natural resources management.
  • Empowerment of Women through crafts: creating opportunities for the economic empowerment of women through programs focused on crafts, thus promoting skills development and business creation.

In the aftermath of the earthquake the Mayshad Foundation conducted a project assessment, identifying likely sites for delivery of healthcare, education and community development. After deciding on the villages in the Tansghart area, a second project phase – construction of the Center – began. By November 2023 the Community Center was already welcoming people from the villages around and building up program activity.

Alongside the construction phase, recruitment of specialist healthcare and education staff took place to run the programs and build project momentum. From January to March 2024 expansion of the project will take place with an emphasis on volunteer development and further building of the medical program, including recruitment of doctors for more specialist treatments.

Following so swiftly on from the tragedy of the earthquake, the Community Center team has already been able to treat 300+ patients in the medical room, and 80 local children are now engaged in learning support in the educational facility.

MCI, Southcomp Polaris, Hewlett Packard Enterprise operated by Selectium, iSTYLE and the Mayshad Foundation are committed to working hand-in-hand with local authorities, community partners and residents to ensure effective and sustainable implementation of the project.

Through its subsidiaries, Midis Group has supported Morocco for decades, not only as a technological service provider, but also as a committed company, thus embodying a strong and lasting relationship with the country.
