MDSap is a Technology Focus Partner at IDC Middle East CIO Summit

MDSap were recently a Technology Focus Group partner at the IDC Middle East CIO Summit, which took place February 24-25.

The CIO Summit had a topical theme for 2021: Innovative Digital Strategies – Evolving to the Demands of a New Reality. On the CIO Summit website, more is explained about the theme.

“While COVID-19 has disrupted every element of global business, it has also demonstrated the critical importance of digital transformation. As the journey from crisis to recovery gets underway, the enablement of a Future Enterprise must be the end goal for any successful business.”

Responding to that proposition during the Technology Focus Group sessions, MDSap Director of Intelligent Enterprise, Ilker Tasdemir presented “The Rules Have Changed, So Should We: Journey to The Intelligent Enterprise,” talking about SAP Intelligent Enterprise solutions.

“MDSap enables organizations to transform into Intelligent Enterprises using its expertise and best-in-class SAP technology and solutions,” explained Ilker in his presentation. He went on to suggest that organizations will need to become Intelligent Enterprises in order to find success amid the current age of digital disruption. An Intelligent Enterprise enables employees to focus on higher-value outcomes and invent new business models and processes.

Ilker explained that technical capabilities need to be embedded in the business core and industry applications to optimize and extend business processes. The benefit is that companies can also use these new capabilities together with innovation services to build and assemble next-generation business processes.

Midis Group donates 88 Oxygen Concentrators to Red Cross to help COVID-19 patients breathe

Midis Group has donated 88 Oxygen Concentrators to the Red Cross in Beirut. One hour after the delivery, a quarter of the machines, which help chronically-ill patients breathe, were already being used in ERs in the city.

“It was a natural step for Midis Group to be in the front line, fighting COVID-19, and we will continue to do so for as long as it will take to beat the pandemic,” said Daniel Pharaon from Midis Group.

According to the World Health Organization, provision of oxygen to support the breathing of COVID-19 patients in difficulty has become a worldwide problem, with shortages of bottled gas in many countries. Oxygen concentrators tackle this problem; they are small, portable units that generate a continuous oxygen supply from the air all around us.

“It has been estimated that around one in five people with COVID-19 suffers respiratory distress sufficient to require oxygen therapy,” said Dr Priyanka Relan, a COVID-19 clinical management expert in a recent WHA blog. “Without that therapy, COVID-19 can be fatal.”

As a leading international business headquartered in Beirut, Midis Group were approached to help with Oxygen Generator supply and the Group were pleased to respond positively – and quickly.

The donation was part of the organization’s way of contributing to Lebanon’s COVID-19 response and mitigating its impact on the health system. On arrival, the oxygen concentrators were quickly distributed to multiple individuals as there was a long waiting list.

Earlier last year, after the tragedy of August 4, Midis Group was part of international efforts to support the rebuilding of the city, as part of the Together for Beirut initiative.

Unior Group drives the future of its diverse business with HPE intelligent infrastructure

Unior Group in Slovenia have simplified their IT management with intelligent, composable servers, storage, and networking solutions from HPE.

Unior is one of the leading worldwide manufacturers from Slovenia, producing key components for the auto industry, as well as hand tools for craftsmen and special-purpose machines for steel processing. The company needed a reliable IT infrastructure for critical manufacturing and catering activities and the agility of the infrastructure to respond quickly to new business requirements.

All of this was accomplished by simplifying IT management at Unior with intelligent, compliant servers, storage, and networking solutions provided by Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). By constantly investing in technologies that enable IT to grow and adapt to ever-changing business requirements, Unior is now ready for the future.

“HPE and Unior have been working together in the field of information technology for many years. This collaboration brought an understanding of needs on the one hand and portfolio and service opportunities on the other. This is rare in the business of two companies. Excellent collaboration is also supported by the strong performance of the HPE partner network, which brings the HPE experience even closer to end customers. We can only wish for such an attitude in business,” explains Boštjan Kosi, Sales Director at Hewlett Packard Enterprise operated by Selectium.

Rok Planinšec, IT Director of Unior, agreed: “the Slovenian Selectium team reflects a strong commitment to their business. It is a partnership where we can talk openly about our challenges and goals and together find technology solutions to lead Unior into the future.”

The driving force is the desire to be first and best

The small Unior IT team matched the needs of a diverse business with an intelligent infrastructure built on HPE technologies, reducing complexity and simplifying infrastructure operations. Ivan Cizel, Head of IT at Unior, explains: “We insist on HPE technologies because they are easy to use and to operate. Our HPE systems are almost 100 % available, allowing us to focus on higher-level issues.”

Progress is easier when you have great partners with you, and the project advanced thanks to partner company Arhides, who played a key role in implementation of the new equipment.

“Unior’s information environment is a good example of how a symbiosis between different actors – Unior, Hewlett Packard Enterprise operated by Selectium and Arhides – can lead to excellent results. Cooperation and complexity of projects with both Unior and HPE was a pleasure and a challenge at the same time,” emphasizes the director of Arhides, Borut Šosterič.

Technology is the answer to the demands of the future

The constant desire for progress often puts IT services in an un-enviable position, as they must be constantly ready to respond to new resource needs in a short time – new virtual servers, additional storage space and so on. As business requirements increased and the previous HPE infrastructure required an upgrade, it was a logical decision for Unior to invest in HPE Synergy compliant infrastructure and intelligent storage to run critical HPE Primera applications. Unior also uses Aruba network solutions for core network and Wi-Fi, as well as dedicated HPE StoreOnce disk-to-disk backups with Veeam’s Backup & Replication for backup.

“HPE Synergy and HPE Primera provide us with the agility to respond quickly when a company needs services for a new project. At the same time, they simplify business operations and enable us to provide our end-users with a responsive and flawless experience,” explains Ivan Cizel, Head of IT at Unior.

For IT Director Rok Planinšec, the demand for high availability tipped the scales: “It’s imperative our business users can access critical systems to support our production operation and be able to complete reservations for guests at our resorts. Guaranteed 100 % up-time was an important factor for choosing HPE Primera. We cannot afford downtime in any area of our business.”

To simplify management of the information infrastructure, Unior relies on HPE OneView, which acts as a stand-alone interface for providing, updating and integrating software-defined systems (computer, memory and network) in the data center. They also use HPE InfoSight to continuously monitor the health and performance of the infrastructure. For added assurance, Unior counts on expert technical support from HPE Proactive Care, which plans and delivers firmware upgrades and patches so the IT team can stay focused on the business.

JBS, Panduit and Trident partner to deliver major Network Data Center solutions for Orange Jordan

Jordan Business Systems (JBS), Panduit and Trident Technology Services have worked together to successfully deliver major IT Infrastructure and Network Data Center solutions for Orange Jordan. The company commissioned the partnership to build two state-of-the-art data centers located in the capital, Amman.

The Marj Al Hamam data center was a new build and the former AI Hussein Medical Center was renovated and became the second site. The refurbished building included an ITN infrastructure and a space for co-location businesses. Now completed, the new hosting facilities have become the biggest and most advanced in Jordan, working 24/7 with no downtime.

Both data centers connect to the Orange Jordan MPLS network and the global internet via fully diverse and protected links to ensure robust availability and scalability to meet growing business needs. To optimize the Marj Al Hamam data center, Orange Jordan were clear they had to reduce power consumption from cooling operations and to cap operational expenses. Further requirements included high levels of security and reliable physical infrastructure management.

Considering the business aspects of co-location spaces, it was important to have the ability to monitor and control power consumption per rack, as well as facilities for invoicing and reporting back those capabilities and costs per customer. The new data centers also had to be deployed quickly to ensure there was no break in service for current customers.

Quoted in a Case Study about the project, Mr. Bahjat Al Adwan, Data Centers and Environment Engineering Manager, Orange Jordan, said, “Our ultimate goal was to achieve a solid power and cooling strategy, and to prioritize analytics and reporting while optimizing space utilization, capacity management, and automation.”

To deliver the project, Orange Jordan used the Panduit IT Infrastructure and Network Data Center Solution. In addition to Panduit’s knowledge and expertise, JBS was the system integrator and distributor for the project. Trident Technology Services, the exclusive Sales and Marketing Representative of Panduit in the Middle East and Africa, also participated in the project. As the exclusive local representative for Panduit, Trident supports growing sales opportunities in Panduit’s key market sectors of data center, enterprise, industrial automation, and electrical.

“Working with Panduit, Trident, and JBS was a fabulous experience. The alignment between communication, computing, control, power, and security led to an agile physical infrastructure that minimizes risk, increases flexibility, and delivers maximum performance throughout our business,” said Bahjat Al Adwan from Orange Jordan in the Case Study.

According to the Case Study, Panduit, Trident, and JBS collectively demonstrated the strength of the partner ecosystem. From design to project management to installation, the partners came together to provide Orange Jordan with the solution it required within a tight timeframe. This successful customer story was highlighted in a video where Antonio Dionisio, Group CIO of ACE Insurance Brokers, and Johnny Beyrouthy, General Manager ME North, of MDSap, talk about the project and how the solution helps ACE in meeting their business goals.

Antonio Dionisio opens the video by introducing the technical challenge and role of Business Intelligence (BI) in the marketplace.
